The Fondation Louis Vuitton presents the third hang from its permanent collections, an unexpected and interactive experience that explores the links between the plastic arts and music.
The Fondation Louis Vuitton has unveiled the third and final stage in its inaugural program, which has presented the artistic lines that inspire its permanent collections and temporary exhibitions. Inaugurated on June 3, 2015, the third hang of the permanent collection is organized along two lines, “popism” and “music”. Together, the different hangs and inaugural exhibitions offer an overview of the artistic vision of the Fondation Louis Vuitton.
The exhibition Pop & Music is designed as an exploration of the relationship between contemporary popular culture – as expressed in music, the media and advertising – and the plastic arts. The “popist” line presents different takes on consumer society through works by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Gilbert & George, Andy Warhol and others. The themes of reproduction, accumulation and the fusing of cultural boundaries are all examined. The “music” line concentrates on works conceived as holistic environments that integrate music as a material in their artistic statement. They include an opportunity to rediscover installations by Marina Abramovic and theatrical performances by Ulla von Brandenburg.
In conjunction with the hang, a series of events are scheduled to resonate with these two lines. From July 25, the space alongside the water basin will welcome a series of video and sound installations that present the growing importance of the world of sound in works by young contemporary artists. A full lineup of musical master classes, concerts and recitals will also continue in the Auditorium. And within the framework of the exhibition “Keys to a Passion”, which continues at the Foundation, a major international symposium will take place on June 12-13 to examine key issues facing museums today.
